Engineering leadership through consequential decisions

Jim Harrison works with medical device founders, leadership teams, investors, and patent counsel when development programs need experienced technical ownership. His consulting practice connects device design, computational analysis, testing, regulatory strategy, and product-development strategy and decisions, along with intellectual property development and protection.

His leadership experience includes directing R&D departments in startup to mid-sized companies. These included international, multi-site teams of engineers and scientists as well as coordinating with CDMOs and external vendors to orchestrate smooth and efficient product development teams. His work has included IDE, MDR, and PMA regulatory strategy and development and oversight of benchtop, preclinical, and clinical activities within and outside the United States.

WJH’s focus includes cardiovascular, structural heart, neurovascular, orthopedic, and spinal devices, with particular attention to implants, delivery systems, fatigue performance, verification evidence, and intellectual property protection.

How Jim works with your team

Engagements can provide fractional or interim leadership, ownership of a defined engineering workstream, or independent technical review. The starting point is the decision the team needs to make: establish feasibility, close a verification gap, understand technical IP constraints, or assess readiness for investment or commercialization.
